So I went for weekly grocery shopping the other day with the thought of buying vegan ice cream on my mind in Hypercity, Mumbai. There was this facebook post regarding launch of dairy free ice-creams in this supermarket close to my home in Mumbai. I couldn't resist to try and i found 7 flavours.
The ice-creams are by White Cub, to know their availability in Mumbai check out their website http://www.whitecub.in/ The flavours are mango, strawberry, butter scotch, chocolate, blueberry and vanilla. There are two flavours for chocolate(chocolate lovers enjoy).
I went for butter scotch. It claims to be cholesterol, transfat and gluten free. It is little expensive than normal ice-cream brands but if you are vegan and you know that choices are limited here, give yourself a treat!
It has coconut taste and so smooth and delicious. I finished that within two days :)
I bought some products as part of my weekly grocery shopping. Let me show you what i bought.
It's been long time since i bought tofu. Tofu is high in protein and since it contains soy I limit eating soy products to 2 times a week.
I have this with soy milk once a while as it contains added sugar. I am trying other healthy options with no added sugar.
Most of Hide n Seek biscuits are vegan but make sure to check the ingredients. I love Bourbon biscuits as i have sweet tooth.
I am yet to try this brown rice by the supermarket. I eat India Gate Brown rice. Brown rice are complex carbs which aids in managing weight. I prefer brown rice over white rice for nutritional content.
I am gonna use this cinnamon powder in desserts which many sweet recipes calls for.
I usually have oats for breakfast. I have tried Saffola's, Quaker and Kelloggs ready to eat masala oats and i found this new flavour. I am excited to try this flavour for breakfast. Please check the ingredients before buying if you are a vegan. I saw the other flavour had milk solids.
These are vermicelli or sevaiya which can be used in kheer or in upma and semolina or rawa. I have made delicious mango sheera recipe by vegan richa using semolina.
I bought unsweetened soya milk to have it with cereal and also for coffee. I buy smaller packs for longer use. I will buy organic jam in my next shopping . I opted for Mango jam here. Tomato puree tastes great in curries.

I am so excited to share this post about vegan products which are available in India. Though I switched to plant based diet, but I wasn't totally vegan. So I slowly started to discard animal products usage and one thing was hard to do is selecting personal care products. Almost all of them had some or the other animal products ingredients or sulphates and parabens and animal testing. So i did a bit of research and I went through lots of beauty products which were vegan but not affordable. And I came across Iba Halal care, when i checked their website the products were vegan and it was totally affordable. I couldn't be much happier.
Their products are sulphates and paraben free , alcohol free, no animal ingredients, no cruelty towards animals and vegan. So i ordered their Fairness Face wash and Nourish and Shine Shampoo from http://www.27avenue.com/ They have good discounts on the products. But sometimes you won't find certain products there. So you can buy fairness face wash from the link here Iba Halal Care Fairness Face Wash and nourish and shine shampoo from here http://amzn.to/1ULbLGk
The company is run by two sisters and it is based in Ahmedabad. So let's get to my review.
Fairness Face Wash
You can check the ingredients and its so cheap. If you love the smell of roses, you will love it. I am in love with this. I have tried lots of face washes before, this is different. It's not harsh on skin. Though i don't require fairness (i have fair skin) but my skin feels so fresh and smooth. It's suitable for oily skin. It clears out dirt, pollution which oily skins are most drawn to.
Here is the Nourish and Shine Shampoo. This product claims to clear out dirt and pollutants and safe for henna or colour treated hair. I can only say that its a mild shampoo. It doesn't lather much. So with long hair you might need more than you normally use. I have shorter hair but i do have to take little bit more for full coverage. It didn't do great for my oily hair, so I might try the other shampoo.
So do you like this post? Do check out their site http://www.ibahalalcare.com/ they have good range of lipsticks and perfumes too :)
PS: This is not a sponsored post.
I always try to eat clean on most of the days and i buy veggies from the local market. Buying seasonal fruits and veggies helps in consuming most of its nutrients. Let me show you what i buy usually at supermarkets.
I use lettuce on salads, wraps and on burgers. It is low in calories. Brown rice is so good for weight management. I bought India Gate Brown rice 1 kg. As summer is approaching i am trying to eat lighter avoiding breads and chapatis. Also bought packs of Saffola oats in different flavours for each day i ate the other two for breakfasts. Soya chunks from Nutrela, though least favourite but it's good in protein so i have this once in a week. Mushrooms are so yummy and healthy.
Bananas are great for energy so add it to smoothies or have it with peanut butter as post workout snack. I prefer eating whole fruit. Beans and Lentils are source of protein so i have it on lunches with rice . I have taken chickpeas, kidney beans, green and yellow lentils.
I love to snack on dried fruits. Taking a small amount is preferable. Then there is tomato puree for sauces and curries. I use Chilli sauce and Soy sauce for Chinese cuisine. There is vegan mayonaise available by Funfoods which goes by the name of Diet Mayonaise Eggless just use small amount on salads, wraps, sandwiches and pasta. I have Kissan or Mapro jam for breakfast, i am still on the search for no added sugars and natural fruit jam.
So these are few items that i buy when shopping for grocery. If you do like such posts please comment below.
